Specialist in visual design and communication
Exhibition designers are specialists in visual design, communication, and spatial storytelling. They are creative problem solvers who develop the visual and physical layout of gallery spaces in ways that support the exhibition’s narrative and highlight the beauty, meaning, and presence of objects.
Their work involves much more than the look and feel of a space. Exhibition designers think carefully about how visitors move through a gallery, how information is communicated, how objects are displayed, and how the overall environment shapes the viewer’s experience. They also work closely with curators, conservators, registrars, preparators, educators, and other museum staff to balance design ideas with the care, safety, and preservation needs of the objects.
Through choices such as layout, lighting, color, casework, labels, seating, and accessibility, exhibition designers help create spaces that are welcoming, engaging, educational, and accessible. Their work allows visitors to connect with objects and stories in a thoughtful and memorable way.
