Conservation- "Art conservation is the preservation of art and objects of cultural heritage through Examination, Documentation, Treatment, and Prevention." [5, Midwest Art Conservation Center]
Collection Management- everything that is done to preserve, develop, and make collections accessible for use. Including acquisition, legal and ethical issues, policy, planning, and relevance to mission and access refers to both intellectual and physical accessibility. Intellectual accessibility is how we make associated data about collections available. Physical accessibility involves access in storage and management of the different ways collections are physically used and the information that results from that usage (i.e., loans, exhibits, publications, cultural use, research, destructive testing, and educational programs, etc.) [6, Beloit College]
Acquisition- 1. The act of acquiring something. Museum Definition- “Acquisition is receiving a new object or group of items that will become part of the collection. Accession- generally taken to mean the official entry in the organization’s register where the objects acceptance is formally documented [1, Museum Collections Management: A Handbook,]
Deaccessions-officially remove (an item) from the listed holdings of a library, museum, or art gallery, typically in order to sell it to raise funds. [1, Museum Collections Management: A Handbook,]
Museum Registrar-the primary steward responsible for the lifecycle management, legal documentation. They maintain: acquisitions, loans, deaccessions, legal documents, ensuring compliance with institutional policies while overseeing shipping, insurance, and the inventory of artifacts.
Integrated Pest Management- Preventing Natural Specimens and material culture constructed from organic matter from being attacked and damaged by pests. 2

Native American Graves Protection Act (1990)- governs the return of Native remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony to lineal descendants [3,U.S. Department of the Interior Indian Affairs]How it works- NAGPRA requires federal agencies and institutions that receive federal funds (including museums, universities, state agencies, and local governments) to repatriate or transfer Native American human remains and other cultural items to the appropriate parties by:
Consulting with lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, and Native Hawaiian organizations on Native American human remains and other cultural items;
Protecting and planning for Native American human remains and other cultural items that may be removed from federal or Tribal lands;
Identifying and reporting all Native American human remains and other cultural items in inventories and summaries of holdings or collections; and
Giving notice prior to repatriating or transferring human remains and other cultural items.

Exhibition Design- designs that thrill, educate and entertain exhibition visitors, while also passing on necessary information about the practical aspects of exhibition practices, such as moving visitors safely through through exhibition spaces, design digestible and legible text, interaction, the integration of film, and exhibition construction
Design Brief- a formulation or understanding of the project
Schematic Design- initial architectural phase that transforms program requirements into conceptual site plans, floor plans, and building forms
Gateway text- an object that sets off a section
